We had a great experience with Rays. Our guide Komang was extremely chill. They accommodated us on a private boat so we could more easily take our kid, and recommended dive locations and timing accordingly to minimise our exposure to choppy sea conditions. The diving here is mind blowing. Unbelievably rich corals and the biggest, most beautiful sea fans ever. Fantastic value. The gear was nothing fancy but it was all fine and functional.

Extremely dangerous equipment and scamming staff

I wanted to do a two-dive excursion to the island opposite. We went with another couple who were going snorkeling. Once we arrived, we realized that ALL the equipment was defective. The worst part is that if we hadn't asked to check the equipment ourselves, they would have made us dive with it. The safety checks (a legal requirement, including in Indonesia) were several years past their expiry date, and air was leaking from the BCDs and regulators, which is extremely dangerous. We refused to dive (they offered to bring us other equipment, but we no longer wanted to dive at all, and certainly not with them), and they refused to take us back. We had to wait four hours for the snorkelers to finish their tour, without doing anything.

Back at the dive center, the managers offered no apology whatsoever. They were extremely aggressive, remorseless, and remarkably dishonest, coupled with a perverse attempt at self-inflicted offense. They threatened to take us to the local police because we refused to pay for our "dive," claiming it was our fault for refusing to dive! They insisted the poor equipment wasn't their fault, that it was some kind of Western whim. They forced us to pay half the original price (claiming they had already paid upfront costs), since we had used their boat and driver (the driver being the manager's sister), and had paid the diving fees (though they were unable to produce the payment confirmation email or the entrance ticket).

Good service, friendly, relaxed, normal cost, both from the property or the tour guide, snorkeling from the property is enough for resting, the best place plus direct access to the beach, which is a point of interest. Best option, try it
